Family Background
Barbara and John have lived at Bulmer Farm, Ryton since August 1996.John has worked abroad for several years as an engineer, followed by a short time working on drilling riggs. He then started his own business in Malton in Horticultural Engineering.
John has a keen interest in aviation, having built his own biplane. There are many private airfields in the areas with one of the best gliding clubs in the country at Sutton Bank.
They both enjoy walking. There are many walks to explore in this area, the wolds, the moors and the coast. The Lake District is only a two hours drive away.
Barbara has worked as a Primary school teacher at a local village of Amotherby for thirty two years. They have two daughters. Fiona, 28 years old, lives in Zurich and is also a teacher. Sam , 27 years old, is a Beauty Therapist and after spending time working on a cruise ship is currently working in Melbourne, Australia.
Woodyard
The land next door to the family house was an established sawmill. After 40 years of business it went into receivership following the foot and mouth crisis in 2001.
John and Barbara purchased the land as an investment. After a few years of wondering what to do with the land they decided to apply for planning permission for a “holiday park”. This was a long arduous process and took nearly 4 years. They are now happily looking forward to the start of their new venture for the family.
